Furman’s ITS Department offers Professional Development training to faculty and staff at no cost to the employee or their departments.  Please see the ITS Professional Development website for opportunities.

Located in the University Center, the Bookstore offers a 10% discount to employees on gifts, insignia merchandise (clothing, etc.) and trade books.  A 20% discount is offered on purchases of gifts and insignia merchandise during the month of the employee’s birthday.  Furman ID must be shown to receive these discounts.

The Career Services Office will assist staff members who are interested in promotion or transfer by assisting with writing resumes and discussing job search strategies. Career Services professionals are trained to administer the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator for staff members who would like to take these vocational assessment inventories. For a small fee, the Myers-Briggs can be administered to departments for staff development. For more information, call Career Services at 294-2106.

The Office of Spiritual Life offers pastoral care and counseling to Furman employees and their family members. The Chaplains assist with individual and family concerns, hospital visitations and perform services for funerals and weddings. The Office of Spiritual Life also counsels and consults with ministers and social service agencies in the larger community and can assist with referrals. For more information, call 294-2138.

The Dining Hall, which serves cafeteria style meals three times daily, has a faculty/staff dining room which is available to employees and their families. You may also dine in the main dining hall for a reasonable price and join the students in the “food court” selections.

The Counseling Office works primarily with students. However, the counselors will be available to consult with employees and then refer them to an outside resource or agency. Call 294-3031 for more information.

At Furman University, we believe you are our greatest asset, and that is why one of our main goals is maintaining an environment where you are provided the tools and support needed to make healthy lifestyle choices. To help you in this important effort, we have partnered with Prisma Health to operate our Employee On-Site Wellness Center located (effective January 2023) on campus at the Earle Student Health Center.

As a Furman University employee, you can get access to discounted season tickets for Furman Athletic events based on availability and certain restrictions. Additionally as a Furman University employee, you may have access to events on a single game basis. These tickets may have to be claimed through a portal prior to gameday and are based on building capacity. Please consider becoming a member of the Furman Athletic Fund for additional benefits.

Furman University has an 18 hole golf course which is available to employees at nominal charges.

The Purple & White Golf League has been active for over 40 years and is looking for new players for this coming season.  All skill levels are welcome – the only requirements are to have fun and to maintain a good pace of play.  Your main “competition” is your own past performance, not other players.  Walk 9 holes each Tuesday and Thursday in the late afternoon, mid-March thru mid-September (carts are available and cost extra).  Fees are $140 for the season (FU Golf Club Members pay $110).  This is a great value for an excellent course, even if you only play twice a month.  Come join us!

The Furman lake is available to employees and their families for picnicking.

The Pala-Den Food Court, includes various food options including Chick-Fil-A, and Moe’s Southwest Grill as well as sandwiches, soft drinks, snack foods, etc. As the first cyber-cafe on Furman’s campus, the Tower Cafe features all of your Starbucks favorites as well as baked pastries and desserts.

The Herman W. Lay Physical Activities Center (PAC) is available for employees and dependents age 13 and older. Identification cards for dependents may be requested online. The PAC has an Olympic-size swimming pool, exercise equipment, two gymnasiums, a dance studio, human performance labs, weight rooms, racquetball courts and many other physical fitness facilities. The Sportsmedicine Center is an outpatient rehab facility operated in partnership with the Bon Secours St. Francis Therapy network.  The Center is available to employees and their families, as well as the public. The Sportmedicine Center utilizes professionals in the fields of sports medicine and physical therapy to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.  Fees can be filed with your insurance carrier.  The Center is recognized as a provider with the employee health plan.  To schedule an appointment call 864.294.2130.

Furman employees receive discounts for theater productions and musical concerts presented periodically throughout the year. During the summer months, the Lakeside Concert Band performs by the lake one night a week at no cost.

Furman University sponsors programs throughout the year to promote a healthy lifestyle among its employees. Programs include physical fitness, nutrition, health screenings, flu shots, etc. and are either free or available at a nominal cost to employees. Wellness programs are announced through newsletters distributed on campus and on the university calendar.

The Campus Conduct Hotline helps eliminate and defend against unsafe and unethical activities, giving faculty, staff, and students a simple, anonymous way to alert administrators of unsafe or unethical behavior.

As a benefit for faculty and staff, Furman offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The program includes counseling services, referrals and resources for work-life needs, as well as legal and financial information. Our  provider Unum, has outsourced this benefit to Health Advocate for 2020.
