Employee Onsite Clinic Reopened 

The employee onsite clinic has reopened as of September 1, 2020.  The temporary hours are Tuesdays 8:30am – 12:30pm and Thursdays 12:30pm – 4:30pm by appointment only.  Appointments should be scheduled through MyChart or by calling 864-455-2455. Once your appointment has been made, the nurse practitioner will call you to clear you for your visit.  To determine if an in-person appointment is needed, all faculty, staff members or dependent spouses must complete an assessment over the phone.  Clinic doors will remain closed and locked until it has been determined that an on-site visit is needed.  Personal protective equipment such as masks and hand sanitizer will be provided if you are seen in the clinic.

If you do not have a MyChart account, go to mychart.ghs.org.  Choose Sign Up Directly to access the online sign-up without an activation code.  Please contact the MyChart Patient Support Line at 844-432-6893 for assistance if you have any difficulty signing up for MyChart.

To help you in this important effort, we have partnered with Prisma Health to operate our Employee On-Site Clinic located next door to the Human Resources Department at 5013 Old Buncombe Rd (next door to the neighborhood Walmart). The clinic is staffed by a nurse practitioner. This provider is NOT intended to replace your primary care physician (“main doctor”).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

Please call 864.455.2455 to make an appointment. Then, follow the prompts for your work location. You will be asked to give your reason for the appointment (such as wellness visit, sick visit or lab work). Priority for appointment time will be given to those using this process.

What conditions are treated at the Wellness Clinic?

The nurse practitioner can treat common illnesses or injuries such as sinus infections, ear infections, flu-like symptoms, poison ivy, mononucleosis, athlete’s foot, shingles, swimmer’s ear, upper respiratory infections, nausea and vomiting, bladder infections, ringworm, cold sores, minor wounds/abrasions/burns, sore throat, rashes, pinkeye/sty, allergies, bug bites/stings, smoking cessation, weight management and blood pressure monitoring.

Who has access to the Wellness Clinic?

The clinic is available to BCBS covered and non-covered faculty/staff and their spouses/domestic partners. The Wellness Clinic is NOT available to dependent children.

Will the nurse practitioner accept walk-in appointments?

It is best to make an appointment. If the nurse practitioner is available, he or she will accommodate as many walk-ins as possible.

What types of prescriptions can the provider write? Are there limitations?

Any acute/episodic prescriptions can be written. Any maintenance drug should continue to be written by your primary care physician. Also, no controlled substances (e.g., Adderall or narcotics) or pain medication will be written by the nurse practitioner. Any specialty prescriptions also may need to be written by the prescribing doctor.

Can the nurse practitioner dispense medication or administer allergy shots?

No.

How much will it cost to use the Wellness Clinic?
  • Not enrolled in a Furman health plan: No fee to use the clinic. The cost is covered by Furman University.
  • Enrolled in Furman’s plus or basic health plan: No fee to use the clinic. The cost is covered by Furman University.
  • Enrolled in Furman’s high-deductible health plan (HDHP): Due to IRS requirements for HDHP plans, you will be charged a small fee to use the clinic.
Can the provider perform annual physicals, such as a Pap smear or prostate screening?

The provider does not perform complete annual physicals, sports physicals, Pap smears or prostate exams.

Can I have blood work completed in the Wellness Clinic?

Yes. An appointment is required to complete blood work. Lab results should be available within 48 to 72 hours.

Can staff access the Wellness Clinic during work hours?

Yes. With supervisor approval, staff will be granted five (5) hours of release time per fiscal year for the purpose of visiting the clinic, seeing a healthcare provider or attending a wellness seminar.

Can the nurse practitioner tell my manager about any condition I have?

No. The clinic operates under HIPAA compliance guidelines. At no time is individual identifiable personal health information to be released to Furman University.
