Virtual visits are available Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

To schedule an appointment, call 864-455-2455 and identify Furman University as your employer. Same-day appointments will be available and performed by a Prisma Health nurse practitioner.  Conditions that can be treated are common acute problems, such as:

Upper respiratory issues (cough, sore throat, allergy, sinus)
Rashes
Muscle strains/sprains
Nausea/vomiting
Urinary tract infections
Medication refill orders can be handled as well

Please call 864.455.2455 to make an appointment or you may schedule through Prisma MyChart. Then, follow the prompts for your work location. You will be asked to give your reason for the appointment (such as wellness visit, sick visit or lab work). Priority for appointment time will be given to those using this process.

The nurse practitioner can treat common illnesses or injuries such as sinus infections, ear infections, flu-like symptoms, poison ivy, mononucleosis, athlete’s foot, shingles, swimmer’s ear, upper respiratory infections, nausea and vomiting, bladder infections, ringworm, cold sores, minor wounds/abrasions/burns, sore throat, rashes, pinkeye/stye, allergies, bug bites/stings, smoking cessation, weight management and blood pressure monitoring.

The Wellness Center is available to BCBS covered and non-covered faculty/staff and their spouses/domestic partners. The Wellness Center is NOT available to dependent children.

It is best to make an appointment. If the nurse practitioner is available, he or she will accommodate as many walk-ins as possible.

Any acute/episodic prescriptions can be written. Any maintenance drug should continue to be written by your primary care physician. Also, no controlled substances (e.g., Adderall or narcotics) or pain medication will be written by the nurse practitioner. Any specialty prescriptions also may need to be written by the prescribing doctor.

Enrolled in a Furman University health plan? If you’re in the Furman University’s $6,000 PPO or $2,000 PPO health plan, there is no fee. Furman University covers the cost of your visit.

Enrolled in Furman University’s high-deductible health plan (HDHP)? Due to IRS requirements for HDHP plans, you will be charged $45.00 to use the Wellness Center.

The provider does not perform complete annual physicals, sports physicals, Pap smears or prostate exams.

Yes. An appointment is required to complete blood work. Lab results should be available within 48 to 72 hours.

Yes. With supervisor approval, staff will be granted five (5) hours of release time per fiscal year for the purpose of visiting the Wellness Center, seeing a healthcare provider or attending a wellness seminar.

No. The Wellness Center operates under HIPAA compliance guidelines. At no time is individual identifiable personal health information to be released to Furman University.
