In the third year, students begin to focus their study in a major. It is also a time for students to take the initiative to seek out opportunities where they are able to apply their developing knowledge and skills to meet real-world challenges, through opportunities such as internships, community engagement projects, or research experiences. Students will also begin to think about what lies beyond Furman and explore potential graduate/professional programs or careers of interest.
- What do you envision for the year ahead?
- What courses are you taking that will help prepare you best for your next steps?
- What and who are resources to help you navigate your next steps?
- What kinds of questions are beginning to interest you in your chosen field of study? What connections can you draw among courses both inside and outside your major or program of study? Reflect on these connections and how they are shaping your future plans.
- What Furman Advantage activity aligns with your interests and future goals? Have you thought about participating in research, internships, study away or community engagement?
- Have you explored available opportunities? Do you know what campus resources to seek out to find out more about these opportunities?
- What impact have your co-curricular activities had on your future plans? Where do you hope to learn more and/or gain experience to apply what you are learning?
- Have you thought about your post-graduation plans? Do you know how and when to apply to graduate school? How are you preparing to take standardized tests (e.g. GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT) that may be necessary for entry?
- Have you met with a career counselor to develop your individualized career action plan?
- What additional skills and experiences do you hope to gain to prepare for your post-graduation plans?
