LGBTQ+ Programming Fund

The LGBTQIA+ Affairs Committee at Furman is dedicated to enhancing inclusion and belonging for the LGBTQIA+ community on campus. The committee is part of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and is composed of Furman Faculty, Staff and Students.

Please consider making a donation to our LGBTQ+ Programming fund. Proceeds will go directly towards funding the current initiatives and future goals of the LGBTQ+ Affairs committee at Furman (see below).

  • Pride Mondays

    Our central Pride visibility campaign on the first Monday of every month, Pride Mondays is an opportunity for all members of the campus community to show their support for LGBTQ+ inclusion by wearing their Furman Pride gear. To request a Furman Pride T-shirt or cap, please fill out this form.

  • LGBTQIA+ Ambassador Program

    Our four LGBTQIA+ Ambassadors are available to answer questions about belonging on campus and provide LGBTQIA+ resources (both on and off campus) to both current and prospective faculty, staff and students.

  • Campus Pride Index

    Our committee is currently reviewing Furman’s inclusive policies and procedures, based on criteria provided by the Campus Pride Index.

  • Pride Zone

    We are partnering with the Center for Inclusive Communities to develop new Pride Zone training for Furman faculty & staff who are interested in being a safe space on campus for LGBTQIA+ students.

  • Mailing Lists

    Our LGBTQIA+ Faculty/Staff mailing list provides a safe space for communication between queer members of the community. Our Allies mailing list disseminates information about LGBTQ-related events and other relevant information.

  • @furmanpride Instagram Page

    Our main social media presence is the @furmanpride instagram page, which provides LGBTQ-related information and updates to the Furman community.

  • Furman Pride Graphic

    Our Furman Pride Graphic (designed by University Communications in consultation with the LGBTQIA+ Affairs committee) is proudly displayed on our website and on T-shirts, hats and other merchandise available to members of our community.

  • Social Events

    The LGBTQIA+ Affairs committee organizes social events to build community for our LGBTQIA+ family twice a semester.

  • Campus Partnerships

    The LGBTQIA+ committee has developed fruitful partnerships with programs and organizations across campus including Center for Inclusive Communities, Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies, Office of Spiritual Life, Alumni Office and Furman Pride Alliance.

  • Local Pride Events

    To demonstrate our spirit of inclusion, the LGBTQIA+ committee organizes Furman’s participation in local Pride events such as Greenville Pride and Upstate Pride.

  • Community Engagement

    The LGBTQIA+ committee has fostered relationships with local Pride organizations such as Upstate  SC LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce, Upstate Pride, 864Pride, Queer Wellness Center and

  • The LGBTQIA+ Affairs Committee would like to:
    • develop funding to support students interested in LGBTQIA+ internships and conferences
    • invite experts to speak on LGBTQIA+ relevant topics as part of a new seminar series
    • develop a guide for gender neutral bathrooms on campus
    • enhance residence life for LGBTQIA+ students on campus
    • organize a Lavender Graduation event to celebrate LGBTQIA+ members of our graduating class
    • develop funding for an on-campus LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center
