Furman on-campus summer events canceled

Furman on-campus summer events canceled

Dear Campus Community,

Out of an abundance of caution and so we may focus our efforts on preparing for an open campus in the fall, Furman University has decided to cancel or postpone on-campus summer events and residential activities through Aug. 1.

This includes all camps and conferences and other events such as performances, weddings and professional meetings. We will continue to monitor the spread and containment of COVID-19 and make adjustments to these plans if necessary.

As previously announced, summer sessions are being taught remotely. Undergraduate research and campus internships also are being conducted remotely. Academic Affairs will work individually with faculty members on a date for resuming their research on campus.

Students who are currently living in emergency campus housing will have the option to remain and should stay in touch with the Housing and Residence Life Office.

We are working diligently on planning for the fall semester and aim to announce our plans by mid- to late June. Again, all of our decisions are guided by our educational mission and core values, and are made in the interest of the safety and health of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community.

We share in your disappointment that we can’t be together yet but are hopeful that these careful steps and planning will allow us to be together again soon.

Please continue to visit our COVID-19 website for the latest information and updates. Be safe and take care.

Warmly,

Elizabeth Davis
President
