Sigma Alpha Iota (Theta Lambda Chapter)
Founded in 1903, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity is an organization which promotes interaction among individuals who share a commitment to music. The Theta Lambda chapter, founded in 1997, is an established part of Furman’s music department. You’ll find SAI members in all major ensembles and many hold leadership positions within these groups. Membership is not restricted to music majors. In fact, membership in SAI is a great way to stay connected and involved in the Music Department while engaging other academic interests. Each year, our chapter takes part in a number of concerts, fundraisers, Sisterhood retreats, community events, and MORE! In addition, the Theta Lambda chapter recognizes one student each year by awarding him/her the St. Cecilia Scholarship during the Spring Honors Recital.
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia (Gamma Eta Chapter)
The Gamma Eta chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia works diligently to uphold the ideals of the fraternity and its founders. The brotherhood engages in several social, musical and philanthropic events throughout each year, including ushering for Furman concerts and providing several cookouts throughout the year. Annual events such as the Family Weekend Talent Showcase, and the Phi Mu Alpha/Sigma Alpha Iota Christmas Concert have become favorites of many students and families. Other concerts include the brotherhood’s Fall Concert, American Music Concert, and the Modern Music Concert. Brothers can also be seen performing in the Greenville community, sharing music with others outside of Furman’s campus. Ultimately, however, the fraternal experience is defined by the good laughs and fond memories shared between fellow musicians which is why Gamma Eta seeks musical men of the highest caliber.
