Group members of The Gladiators sought a way to promote and encourage healthier nutrition among children in the Upstate.  Currently, the Greenville County School District has implemented a successful healthy nutrition program at AJ Whittenberg Elementary School.  The district is seeking to expand this program to ten additional schools for the 2011-12 school year.

The Gladiators have committed to support the school district’s initiative in several ways. The Gladiators have raised $10,000 to offset a portion of the costs for a one week culinary training program.  This training program, provided by Greenville Technical College, will be for food services employees of the ten schools selected for program expansion in the upcoming school year.

Additionally, group members have also collaborated to design a prize package to the school team who achieves the highest rating in the culinary training program.  This incentive will serve to reinforce employee “buy in”  and reward high performance in the program.

The Gladiators have also committed to provide annual recognition to the top school (based on student evaluations) participating in the program.  The first award will be for the 2011-2012 academic year.  The Gladiators hope this award will serve as an incentive and encourage schools to fully embrace the nutritional program.
