Transform Communities Through Sports.

This interdisciplinary, five-course graduate certificate equips learners with the skills to design, lead and evaluate sports-based initiatives that foster community engagement, nonprofit collaboration and strategic partnerships. Sports Development and Community Partnerships is designed for professionals who want to use sports as a platform for leadership, community engagement and social impact. It’s ideal for coaches, nonprofit and community leaders, educators, corporate social responsibility professionals or municipal leaders who build partnerships through sports-based initiatives.

CURRICULUM SNAPSHOT

This graduate certificate can typically be completed within three to four terms. Students can begin in fall, spring or summer terms. To earn a graduate certificate in Sports Development and Community Partnerships, students must earn 15 credits in the following five courses:

  • MAP 611 – Community Action & Policy
  • SDG 706 – Sports Management and Marketing
  • INV 641 – Professional Coaching
  • MAP 640 – Nonprofit Management – or – MAP 610 – Grant Writing & Fundraising
  • MAP 675 – Community-Based Practicum

How to Apply

This program is open to all educational and career backgrounds.

Admission/Application Requirements:

  • A graduate admissions application, accompanied by a one-time, non-refundable fee of $55 (fee waived if you have previously taken a graduate course at Furman).
  • One recommendation submitted through a link sent to the recommender.
  • Current resume.
  • Interview with program director.
  • Official transcripts from all higher education institutions attended.
