Ceremony

  • When is the ceremony? The ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Paladin Stadium.
  • When do I get my Diploma? Diplomas will be distributed at the ceremony.
  • How many tickets do we get for Commencement? Guests will not be limited, and tickets will not be required for Paladin Stadium.
  • What if I have guests that cannot attend? Guests will also have the option to view the ceremony through live-streaming in location(s) TBA or from home.
  • What do I need for the day of the ceremony? Ceremony information, graduate reader cards, Baccalaureate, and rain tickets will be distributed to graduate candidates on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 4:30 – 6:00 pm at McAlister Auditorium.
  • When should I arrive? Graduate candidates will report to McAlister Auditorium for line of march at 5:45 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024 for the processional down the Furman Mall.
  • Where is parking? Parking for the Commencement Ceremony will be at the Chapel Parking lots. Handicap parking will be reserved in front of Paladin Stadium.
  • Is there a clear bag policy for the Stadium? Typically, there is. For the 2024 Commencement ceremony this policy is being waived.

Registration

  • Do I need to register? Members of the Class of 2024 are required to register in order to participate in the commencement ceremony. Registration will open soon. If you have not registered and would like to participate, please contact commencement@furman.edu.
  • Please note that registering is required but does not guarantee your ability to participate in commencement exercises.  All Furman and major specific requirements must be successfully completed at the conclusion of the Spring 24 term to be eligible to participate in the May 4 commencement exercises. Please reach out to your academic advisor if you have any questions or concerns about your status regarding these requirements.

 

Rain Plan

  • If it rains, where will the ceremony take place? In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in McAlister Auditorium. Click for more detailed information on the rain plan.
  • How many guests can I have in case of rain? Graduates will be issued three guest rain tickets for McAlister.
  • Can my guests still watch the ceremony? Additional guests can view the ceremony through live-streaming in location(s) TBA or from home.
  • When do I get tickets? Rain tickets will be issued to graduates on Friday, May 3, 2024

Regalia Graduation Fair

  • How do I get my regalia? Graduate candidates may purchase regalia online through the Oak Hall website at https://furman.shopoakhalli.com/ or purchase in the Barnes & Noble at Furman  during Graduation Fair and through the ceremony date.
  • For any questions or help in purchasing your regalia, please contact the Barnes & Noble at Furman by calling (864)294-2164 or by e-mailing SM8005@bncollege.com.
  • How do I get my honor cords if I qualify? These will be distributed through the bookstore if you qualify. Contact them at the information above if you need to see if you qualify or how to get them when you do.

Graduation Fair

  • When is the Grad Fair and what is it for? Graduate candidates are encouraged to attend the Graduation Fair which takes place at Barnes & Noble Wednesday, March TBA, 2024 from 11am-3pm and Thursday, March TBA, 2024 from 1pm-5pm. Regalia and invitations can be ordered. Representatives from our vendors will be on site to assist with orders and answer any questions.

Other Commencement weekend activities

  • Baccalaureate Ceremony will be held on May 4, 2024, at 11:00 am in McAlister Auditorium. Graduates who registered to participate will process in for the ceremony dressed in regalia.  Participation is not mandatory. Readings for the Baccalaureate Ceremony can be found here.
  • Lunch on the Lawn will be held at noon on May 4, 2024, in front of the Roe Art Building.  All graduates and their guests are invited to join us for lunch.
  • Furman will host an After Party Celebration immediately following the commencement ceremony.  It will be held Lakeside behind the Dining Hall.  RSVPs will be required. Look for more information in future communications. Tickets are required and can be arranged when you register for Commencement.
