Staff Report

Furman Athletics reached a historic milestone this week as the Paladins claimed both the Southern Conference Commissioner’s Cup and Germann Cup in the same academic year for the first time in program history, underscoring the department’s excellence across men’s and women’s sports.

Announced at the league’s annual meeting in Hilton Head, S.C., the honor marks Furman’s third overall Commissioner’s Cup title — and second this decade — recognizing the SoCon’s top men’s athletics program. The Paladins have also finished runner-up 10 times since the award was established in 1970, the most titles among the conference’s private institutions.

On the women’s side, Furman continued its long-standing dominance by capturing its 18th Germann Cup, far and away the highest total in Southern Conference history. Named in honor of former commissioner Ken Germann, the award recognizes the league’s top women’s athletics program. Furman women’s teams have also posted eight runner-up finishes over the years.

The sweep highlights one of the most successful years in Furman Athletics history and reflects the sustained excellence, depth and competitiveness of Paladin student-athletes and coaches across the department.
