Important Healthcare, Counseling Support Update

August 26, 2022

Dear Campus Community,

Many of you have inquired about the recent Supreme Court decision and legislative actions regarding reproductive healthcare and what impact that may have on our community. I want to assure all students, faculty and staff that Furman University will continue to respect individual healthcare decisions and serve the health and safety needs of our community, including providing information on available services.

For our students, Furman will continue to provide education about and access to contraception and other healthcare services, as well as counseling for students who have pregnancy concerns, including providing information about prenatal care and available options for terminating a pregnancy. The Earle Student Health Center also continues to provide a full scope of contraception options.

In addition, Furman has long provided a team of health and wellbeing specialists who assist students in crisis and facing emergencies and will continue to provide this support as needed.

As always, employees may receive such assistance through their healthcare providers, and information about insurance coverage is available from Human Resources.

Additional support, including counseling and information on available resources, is available through the following offices:

The health, safety and wellbeing of our students, faculty and staff is a top priority, and the university remains committed to supporting our campus community and its needs. Please treat each other with kindness and respect, understanding that healthcare decisions are difficult and personal.

Warmly,

Elizabeth Davis

President
