Project Mission: Equip SC Hunters for the Hungry to expand operations throughout the state of South Carolina
Project Objectives:
- Support South Carolinians facing food insecurity by expanding distribution of high-quality, high-protein, locally-sourced venison products.
- Execute two pilot expansion projects with Catawba Nation and Oconee Food Council.
- Create a process for connecting SC Hunters for the Hungry with local hunters, food processors, and nonprofit distribution partners.
- Develop a comprehensive toolkit to support SC Hunters for the Hungry, hunters, processors, and non-profits in establishing effective Hunters for the Hungry partnerships.
Additional Benefits:
- Hunters desiring to donate harvested deer have clearly defined structure in which to do so resulting in less wasted meat
- Nonprofits realize cost savings through donation of affordable, shelf-stable meat products
- Provides a model which can be presented to the SC Legislature to secure funding
- Local meat processors benefit from subsidies provided for the processing of meat for use by SC Hunters for the Hungry
- Supports the control and maintenance of deer populations in the state
