Occupational Outlook Handbook

Each year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics researches hundreds of occupations in the United States and compiles their findings into the Occupational Outlook Handbook. In the handbook, you can find career information on duties, education, training, pay, and prospects for hundreds of jobs.

O*NET Program

Use O*NET, the nation’s primary source of occupational information, to learn about standard job expectations, education requirements, and future growth from that professional title. Use this resource to help broaden your understanding of all the jobs you might be successful in.

Informational Interviews

The best way to learn about a career is to talk to someone who’s actually in it every day! Informational interviews are an important networking technique that are extremely valuable during the job search.

Informational interviews can also lead to mentoring opportunities. Visit the Mentoring Office to connect with a mentor in your area(s) of interest.

NACE Career Competencies

Are you career-ready? The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), appointed a task force of college career services and HR/staffing professionals to develop a definition of career readiness, based on extensive research among employers. NACE’s research identified eight competencies associated with career readiness.
