From the Blue Ridge Mountains in the upstate to the beaches along the coastline, South Carolina is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Want to explore it? Our campus is the perfect starting point.

At Furman, you’re a short distance from world-class rapids, biking and hiking trails and some of the best state parks in South Carolina. In fact, Paris Mountain State Park is practically in our backyard. You can take a trip there after an afternoon class and make it back to your residence hall in time for dinner.

On weekends, you have the option to join our outdoor club on a camping trip, or head down to the Carolina beaches, just a few hours away. Either way, there’s an adventure waiting for you.

State Parks

Furman is a short drive from some of the nation’s best state parks. You’ll find a bit of everything. Hiking trails. Lakes. Mountains covered by forests. Rivers filled with bass and trout. Waterfalls. And of course, the sort of scenic views you’d expect to see on a postcard. No matter which park you choose, there’s no shortage of things to do.

Water Sports

South Carolina is known for its bodies of water. That’s because our home state has something for everyone, from golden sand beaches to world-class rivers and lakes. When you’re a student here, it won’t be long before you’re invited on a fishing or whitewater rafting trip with one of your classmates.
