The theories and methods of communication extend far beyond our lecture halls. Conduct an independent research project. Explore another culture in our faculty-led study away programs. Create a documentary. Lead a student organization. No matter your area of interest, our department has the resources and commitment to help you find and achieve your academic goals. Take advantage of the opportunities available to you.
Our Media Lab
Our Media Lab is one of the busiest places in Furman Hall. Communication Studies students have access to our broadcast studio, editing bays, camera equipment, podcast kits, and technology to capture those hard to reach shots like gimbals, iPhone mounting kits, and drones.
Global Experiences
We offer programs in more than 30 countries, shaping and informing active citizens of the world through exposure to a wide variety of cultures, experiences, and ideas.
Student Organizations
Communication Studies is a place to develop skills in leadership, marketing, teamwork, media production, journalism, and fundraising. Our student organizations provide co-curricular opportunities for students to enhance these skills alongside their coursework.
Research & Internships
Students pursuing a Communication Studies degree often complete their engaged learning experiences in the major through directed research, structured internship experiences, or other individualized learning opportunities with our faculty.
Mentoring & Advising
Our faculty and staff represent a diversity of backgrounds, professional experiences, and academic interests, and everyone in our department is committed to student success.
