MUSIC PROGRAMS AT FURMAN

Band and Orchestra: June 9th-14th

Furman’s Band and Orchestra Camp is an intensive one-week experience designed to encourage 260 students, ages 12-18, to fuel their musical enthusiasm and boost their playing skills. Talented musicians from across the country come to Furman with expectations of taking their performance skills to the next level.

Summer Keyboard Institute: June 16th-21st

The Summer Keyboard Institute offers young pianists and organists, ages 12-18, a unique major and minor style of study in a variety of keyboard areas. Designed for intermediate and advanced pianists and organists, all students study piano or organ as their primary then select a secondary area in organ, piano, ensemble piano, or improvisation.

Jazz Camp: June 23rd-27th

A joint program of Furman Music and the non-profit Greenville Jazz Collective, the camp is a unique experience designed to encourage HIGH SCHOOL students of all levels to fuel their jazz performance skills (middle school students considered by recommendation). Students will take daily classes in jazz theory, improvisation, and jazz history, and perform in a big band and/or jazz combo.

Young Artist Vocal Experience: July 7th-12th

The Young Artist Vocal Experience is an intensive one-week summer workshop for talented singers ages 14-18. Board or Commute. Vocal styles taught: musical theatre, opera, sacred, art song, oratorio. Participants have the opportunity to develop their skills through voice classes, acting classes, master classes, student recitals, faculty recitals, alumni recitals and special topic sessions.

Fantastique! Band and Orchestra Camp: June 9th-14th

Talented musicians from across the country join together on the beautiful Furman campus to build not only musicianship skills but life-long friendships. For ages 12-18, the students perform in one of four large ensembles (a full symphony orchestra, a string orchestra, and two concert bands). In addition to the ensemble rehearsals, sectionals, and master classes, the camp offers courses in basic musicianship, conducting, yoga for musicians and history.

Summer Keyboard Institute: June 16t-23rd

The Summer Keyboard Institute offers young pianists and organists, ages 12-18, a unique major and minor style of study in a variety of keyboard areas. Designed for intermediate and advanced pianists and organists, all students study piano or organ as their primary then select a secondary area in organ, piano, ensemble piano, or improvisation.  Participants must be able to read music at the intermediate or advanced level; this Institute is not suitable for beginners. Prior training in piano is expected. No prior organ experience is needed if organ will be the Secondary Area of study. This week is an excellent opportunity for pianists to experience the pipe organ. Prior organ training is expected if organ will be your Primary Area of study.

Furman Sumer Jazz Camp: June 23rd-27th

A joint program of Furman Music and the non-profit Greenville Jazz Collective, the camp is a unique experience designed to encourage High School students of all levels to fuel their jazz performance skills. Current 6th and 7th grade students considered by teacher recommendation.  Students will take daily classes in jazz theory, improvisation, and jazz history, and perform in a big band and/or jazz combo. The camp includes evening faculty recitals, social events, improvisation sessions and a final student concert. Students of all instruments can apply. Board or Commute.

TOP MOCK

July 6th-14th

Do you love mock trial? Do you wait with anticipation for the next season to begin and a new case to be released? Are you considering a career in law or interested in learning more about the American judicial system? Do you want to build your skills in public speaking, presentation, and critical analysis?

Then join us for Top Mock, one of the oldest and most prestigious summer programs for high school mock trial. For 18 years, Top Mock has taught advanced trial advocacy skills to some of the nation’s finest mock trial participants.

Top Mock is a highly selective program administered by Furman’s award-winning collegiate Mock Trial team. The program is designed for high school students who have competed in mock trial tournaments (particularly the Empire Tournaments, State Championships, or National Championship). Top Mock participants receive a week of training and instruction from Furman’s experienced mock trial faculty and students.
