Furman University believes involvement in a student organization is a powerful experience in the development of individuals. The University began publicly reporting student conduct violations by organizations in fall 2016 to allow our students to make a discerning choice about their campus involvement. The Student Organization Transparency Report includes findings of responsibility, not only for hazing reports as required by the Stop Campus Hazing Act, but also for all other student conduct violations as addressed in the Student Handbook. This report is updated at the end of fall and spring semesters of each academic year, and records are published for five calendar years from the date of publication, in accordance with the University’s Hazing Policy.
The following information is included in this report.
- Name of the student organization
- Date(s) of the alleged behavior, if known
- Description of incident
- Date such behavior was reported to the university
- Date(s) of investigation
- Date of Notice of Charge(s)
- Date of Resolution
- Associated charge(s) and action item(s)
Reported incidents are organized based on Date of Notice of Charge(s) within each academic year.
For more information related to the University’s options for reporting hazing, hazing prevention programs, relevant law and policies, and support resources for persons impacted by hazing behavior, please visit the Hazing Prevention website.
Annual statistics on hazing are available in the University’s Annual Fire Safety and Security Report. Please note that hazing statistics will be included beginning with the 2026 report (issued in 2027). Hazing statistics include incident reports that meet the federal definition of hazing in Section 485(f)(6)(A) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C 1092(f)(6)(A)). Such statistics do not reflect actual findings of hazing behavior, which are included in the Campus Hazing Transparency Report.
Note: No organizational student conduct incidents were recorded during the 2021-2022 Academic Year.
