Mission

Senior Leaders Greenville builds awareness of the essential role of seniors in the community and the critical issues they face, empowering participants to become active players seeking better lives for seniors in Greenville, the Upstate, and beyond.

Vision

The collective wisdom and experience of Senior Leaders Greenville participants will be a powerful voice of advocacy for seniors, resulting in better choices for aging well, to the benefit of all seniors and the greater community.

Program Overview

The program will run from August through May. During nine day-long sessions, in a variety of locations around the Greenville County, senior adult participants will meet with community leaders, activists and politicians to gain a broad view and in-depth look at Greenville’s history, people and institutions.  Particular attention will be paid to how they affect, and are affected by, the growing senior population.

Though tours, speakers, group activities, simulations and exercises, participants will be exposed to a broad view of our community and then immersed in the details of subjects that are particularly relevant to the older population.  As participants see the varying opportunities and challenges that the senior population is faced with, they will be encouraged to bring their unique talents, wisdom and skills to advocacy, collaborations, solutions and implementation of ideas that will benefit our senior population.

Guided by the long-term State’s Plan on Aging, participants will address a different topic each session.  Proposed topics include:

  • Orientation
  • History
  • Physical/Psychological Impacts of Aging
  • Transportation
  • Housing
  • Social Services
  • Government
  • Medical
  • Legal and Financial Issues
  • What do I do now?
