What is it?

A scholarship for any Furman-hired full-time or part-time staff member who is not a member of the Furman faculty, as well as their spouse or domestic partner or legal dependent enrolled, either full- or part-time, in an accredited two- or four-year college or university. The word “scholarship” refers to a cash award made payable to the specified school on behalf of the recipient at least two weeks before the recipient begins classes (annual or semester start). It may be used to assist with education-related expenses such as tuition, books, room and board.

History of the Program

Furman staff began contributing to the Staff Community Fund in July 1999 and continue to do so through annual giving and gifts from the Furman community. The first $500 was awarded in the fall of 2002. In the years since the establishment of the fund, support has continued on a consistent basis. After evaluation of the current fund status, and with the creation of the Class of 2022 Staff Community Fund, the Staff Advisory Council voted to increase the scholarship for full-time staff, their spouse/domestic partner, or legal dependent to $1000 and add another scholarship of $750 for part-time staff, their spouse/domestic partner, or legal dependents.
