Started in Fall 2008, the Furman STEM Mentors program provides a structure for Furman science majors to connect with teacher-selected middle school students whose “potential is outweighed by circumstance”. Students mentor gender-matched students for one session (generally about one hour) once a week.  Since Fall 2008, over 250 Furman mentors have participated, recording over 2000 contact hours. Some of the schools who have participated in the Mentor program include, Lakeview Middle School,  Tanglewood Middle School and the Frazee Dream Center.
