Started in Fall 2008, the Furman STEM Mentors program provided a structure for Furman science majors to connect with teacher-selected middle school students whose “potential is outweighed by circumstance”. Students mentor gender-matched students for one session (generally about one hour) once a week.  Through 2019, over 250 Furman mentors have participated, recording over 2000 contact hours.

If you are interested in connecting with local middle school students through science and math based engagements/explorations, reach out to Dr. John Kaup ([email protected]) who is working with a colleague in Math to offer the “Dins, Dogs and Lions” program.
