COVID testing for sorority recruitment

Dear Students,

We look forward to welcoming you back to campus next week for sorority recruitment. You received an email from President Davis earlier today explaining Furman’s decision to require eligible students to receive the booster vaccine in response to the CDC’s new guidance regarding quarantine and isolation.

We are excited to announce we are moving forward with in-person sorority recruitment activities. Since recruitment events are in large groups and sustained over several days, and the COVID virus is a continuing factor we are monitoring, we are requiring all sorority members and potential new members (PNMs) to participate in on-campus COVID testing upon arrival. Furman will cover the expense of these tests. In the case of a positive test, accommodations will be made for potential new members (PNMs) to remain on campus and participate virtually.

Here are tips for setting yourself up for a safe, in-person recruitment experience:

  1. If you received your final dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine before July 1, 2021 (or J&J before November 1, 2021), obtain a booster vaccine before returning to campus (this is required for all students). This will allow you to avoid quarantine if identified as a close contact of a positive case and continue participation in in-person recruitment events.
  2. Once boosted, submit a copy of your vaccination card to furmanstudenthealth@PrismaHealth.org. A simple photo of the card attached to an email will suffice.
  3. Remain in a low-contact environment, as much as possible, for the five days before returning to campus.
  4. Once you arrive on campus, limit your close contacts as much as possible until you receive your COVID test result. Wednesday’s PNM Kickoff will shift to virtual (details forthcoming), and all test results will be received before Round One: Open House begins in-person on Thursday at 9 a.m.
  5. In order to expedite testing, if possible, plan to arrive by early afternoon Tuesday (current sorority women) or Wednesday (potential new members), as testing will be available 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday and 1-6 p.m. on Wednesday in the Trone parking lot. Please pre-register for testing and enter the following case sensitive information.

    Employer code: Furmanstudents
    Collection Method: Nare Swabs

  6. Wear your mask at all times when indoors and participating in recruitment activities, including informal activities.

If you have any questions, please let us know. The Panhellenic Council and the sorority community has put great effort into preparing for in-person recruitment this year, and these additional measures will further help our sorority community meet its goals of delivering a fun engaging experience and welcoming new members into our chapters.
