Program Overview
Under the Strengths at Furman initiative, interested students can apply to join a team that aims to help others understand, use, and communicate their natural talents through a common language.
Members of our Strengths team meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:30PM to 6:30PM in the Shucker Center for Leadership Development.
Student Strengths Team Roles
Current Freshmen, Sophomores, or Juniors who have not previously been Strengths Ambassadors may apply to be a CliftonStrengths Apprentice. In this role, Apprentices will attend weekly meetings alongside both Ambassadors and Peer coaches with a focus on strengthening both their own Top 5 CliftonStrengths understanding as well as their knowledge of the 34 CliftonStrengths Themes. Those chosen to be Apprentices will spend at least one semester shadowing Peer Ambassadors as they facilitate custom Strengths workshops, Pathways Strengths sessions, and Strengths-based classroom curriculums. After sharpening their Strengths knowledge and skills as facilitators, Strengths Apprentices will move to the role of Strengths Ambassador.
Current Sophomores and Juniors who have completed the role of Strengths Apprentice may apply or be appointed for the role of Strength Ambassador. Ambassadors have the responsibility of continuously broadening their understanding of all of the CliftonStrengths themes, how these themes combine to contribute to individuals’ unique gifts, and how to improve communication through an understanding of your Top 5. Students in this position will be accustomed to working on projects as a team during weekly meetings as well as being able to facilitate various Strengths-based presentations.
This position, unlike the others, does not stand alone. In order to become a peer coach, students must have experience as a Strengths Ambassador and fulfill requirements for both roles. Under this position, Ambassadors will train to be able to offer 1:1 coaching meetings to students at Furman to discuss their natural talents from the student point of view.
The CliftonStrenghts Intern in the Shucker Center serves as the primary Student representative and liaison for the Strengths at Furman initiative. The intern leads all Strengths Ambassador meetings and develops facilitator and peer coaching training curriculum for Strengths Ambassadors.
The Strengths Interns also assists with the design and delivery of custom Strengths development workshops across the campus and serves as a 1:1 Peer Strengths coach.
