Fire Pit Policy

Point of View Fire Pit

Policies

  • There is a limit of 30 participants.
  • Organization advisor is not required to be present, as long as a Trone Student Center Building Manager is on duty.
  • Events can take place during Trone Student Center building hours, after hours requests will be considered pending student manager availability.
  • Event duration limited to two hours.
  • There is $15 reservation fee to cover supplies: starter brick, wood, and s’mores sticks (if requested).
  • Requesting organization must identify a fire monitor – this person will be present throughout the duration of the event and must have no additional duties.
  • The bonfire must be constantly monitored until it has been fully extinguished.
  • Users may only burn the provided wood – no other materials may be burned. No type of accelerate such as lighter fluid, charcoal lighter fluid, and/or gasoline may be used at any time.
  • No shared / common food sources will be allowed; s’mores will be allowed and must be ordered through Bon Appetit.
  • Requesting organization must have a plan for enforcing mask-wearing and social distancing.
  • A water hose is accessible for emergencies and will be used to extinguish the fire at the end of the event.

Reservation & Event Approval Process

  • Request space through syncDIN form: https://furman.campuslabs.com/engage/submitter/form/start/152325
  • Register event on syncDIN for approval from the Office of Student Involvement & Inclusion (OSII)
  • $15 rental fee is due to the OSII (cash, check, or interdepartmental) day of the event
  • Trone Student Center manager will meet with the fire monitor at the start of the event to provide supplies.

North Village G Burn Barrel

Policies

  • There is a limit of 30 participants and two barrels.
  • Organization advisor is required to be present to enforce Paladin Promise compliance.
  • North Village G-Pavilion is the only approved location for burn barrels.
  • Events must be done by 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday & Saturday, so as not to disturb students living near that space.
  • Event duration limited to two hours.
  • There is a $15 reservation fee to cover supplies: starter brick, wood, and s’mores sticks (if requested).
  • Requesting organization must identify a fire monitor – this person will be present throughout the duration of the event and must have no additional duties.

  • Students will be provided with a bucket that they will be responsible for filling with water and keeping near the burn barrels, which will then be used to extinguish the fire at the end of the event. A fire extinguisher will be available for emergency use only.

  • Register event on syncDIN for approval from OSII
  • Place work order with facilities requesting supplies for the event
  • $15 rental fee is due the day of the event
  • Materials will be placed at NV-G on the day of the event
