Inside South Carolina Government with Senator Vincent Sheheen

Furman University’s Riley Institute is hosting a public talk with former South Carolina state senator Vincent Sheheen on March 30, 2026 from 5:00–6:00 p.m. at Hartness Pavilion. This event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the general public, with registration requested for community members.
Drawing from his recently published book, A Concise Guide to South Carolina State Government, Sheheen will offer a clear and engaging look at how state government works and why it matters. Through firsthand experience and stories of influential leaders, he will explore the history, structure and decision-making processes that shape life in South Carolina.
Designed for students and community members interested in becoming more informed and engaged citizens, the event will be followed by a reception and book signing. Hosted in partnership with the Department of Politics and International Affairs and University of South Carolina Press, the session will also feature insights from Glen Halva-Neubauer, Dana Professor and Chair of Politics and International Affairs
