Hey guys!

My name is Andy Nogas and I’m a sophomore from Raleigh, NC. I’m planning on majoring in Sustainability Sciences with a minor in Education. I’m involved in Greek life and Furman’s Car Club, and I now get to be a part of the Furman Admissions Team!

This is my first blog post, and I’m more than excited for you guys to get to see more of me throughout the year! I love hanging out with my friends, hiking, thrifting, getting to see my family, travelling, and playing with my dog Boone. Like I said earlier, I’m going to major in Sustainability, so I’m very passionate about the environment and ways we can save or improve our future ways of life. In my first full year here, I was able to take 3 classes on Sustainability and Environmental Science and I’m taking another this semester.

One of my favorite places around Furman is Bald Rock, it’s about a 20–30-minute drive towards the NC border. The views up there are some of the best I’ve seen, you get to see miles of the SC wilderness and parts of Greenville in the distance, all on top of a huge rock. My favorite restaurant in Greenville has got to be Nose Dive, it’s a nice burger place right in the heart of downtown. My personal favorite is the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, I know it’s not a burger, but it is THE BEST chicken sandwich I’ve ever had.

Before Furman

My journey to Furman started in high school. I went to a small boarding school in central Virginia called Woodberry Forest located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I was taught so many valuable life lessons that not only prepared me for Furman, but also made me the person I am today. While I was there, I played soccer, golf, squash, mountain biking, and even rock climbing. I was also a tour guide and a head waiter. It was also where my love for the environment started.

Furman has given me so many opportunities, clubs and organizations, meeting so many new people, taking classes I don’t think I would’ve gone near, and even getting advice on my resume. All these opportunities that were given to me have more than furthered my knowledge and desire to learn so much more. One of my favorite things about Furman has got to be the people. The friends I’ve made here are going to be with me for the rest of my life; they have helped me through everything and made me, me. My favorite spot on campus has got to be the patio right outside my dorm, Clark-Murphy, facing the Bell Tower and lake during sunset. I bring my homework out there with me, put in some headphones and listen to music.

I hope this helped y’all get to know me! You’ll be seeing and hearing from me soon!

Thanks,

Andy
