Campus Cupid!

Every year, our student activities board FUSAB tries to get love in the air around Valentine’s Day. They have put on this event called Datamatch which allows Furman students to “match” with each other just in time for the holiday. Yes, it kind of sounds like a dating app… but when the whole campus fills out a profile, it kind of feels more like a fun game. No one ever takes this too seriously, but it’s a simple way to make Valentine’s Day more fun around campus. Making your own profile is half of the fun itself, so let’s go through the steps…

Survey

First thing you do is fill out a 15 question survey about yourself relating to ALL things Furman. One of the questions is about your ideal first date or your Friday night plans. The answer choices for these questions are funny because they’re so specific to life at Furman. They ask about some of our favorite places on campus and bring in the best and worst parts of typical student life. There’s a question about your go-to meal in the DH and which student you are at the tailgates in the fall. We all know I’m the type to stay the whole time and never want to leave…

At the bottom of the profile, there are 3 questions you answer to show your personality. There are a ton of different options you can pick from like

The funnier your response, the better it is. Keep in mind that this is all just for fun, so it never has to be serious. Some of the answers people come up with for these questions are the best part!

Crush Roulette

Now this part is new and exciting! After you fill out your own Datamatch profile, you can pick 2 people that you think should get matched together. It’s completely anonymous so if you want to mess with your friends and match them with people, they never even have to know. This might be my favorite part of Datamatch this year. It could start to make matches pretty interesting 😉

Get Your Matches!!

The profiles have a certain day when they’re supposed to be done, and then everyone will get their matches on the same day. You can log into your account and there’s a list of people either for love or friendship or both based on your preferences submitted earlier. It’s always interesting to see how they turn out and it’s especially interesting when you know the people on your list. It’s all just for fun though, so you never have to worry too much about how these turn out!
