My Favorite Outdoor Activities on Campus

One of the first things I noticed about Furman when I was visiting was how beautiful the campus is. For a school that would be considered on the smaller side, our campus is actually pretty large once you consider everything it has to offer. While all the academic buildings are relatively concentrated and never too far away, there are plenty of hidden gems around campus that are really fun to visit both alone and with friends.

One of the more obvious outdoor areas of our campus is our beautiful lake. It is a great place to walk around, run, picnic, or just watch the ducks, swans, turtles and other wildlife around it. I love to walk around the lake because I find it so calming and relaxing, which I find is a very useful and healthy way to break up studying time.

Other outdoor activities are beach volleyball. We don’t have a beach here at Furman, but we do have three beach volleyball courts across campus. Me and my friends love to go out on a nice day and play volleyball. It’s a great way to both hangout with friends and to compete. On a sunny day, we will bring a Bluetooth speaker out and play volleyball for hours and enjoy the great day.

Right next to the volleyball courts are some outdoor basketball courts! These are very fun to play a pick-up game on, which is always a great way to spend time with friends. The cool thing about these courts is that they have street lamps on them so you can play during the night time as well. Playing basketball late at night with my friends on the weekends is always a great time and a very cool aesthetic!

I love Furman’s campus because there are plenty of great outdoor activities. While I only mentioned 3 of them here, there are so many other great options such as soccer fields, open green spaces for frisbee or Spike Ball, and more.
