Modern Languages and Literatures offers an exciting array of study away opportunities in Europe and Latin America. Yet one of the most exciting thing about studying foreign languages at Furman is that you don’t have to leave campus to have an enriching cultural experience. We encourage students to Go Beyond classroom learning to explore all the possibilities for using and strengthening their language skills in our Modern Language Center in Furman Hall and our Language Houses in North Village. Our unique facilities can take you beyond the classroom for deeper immersion into the languages we offer all our students.

Language Houses
As a Modern Languages and Literatures student, you will have access to the unique, dynamic program of our language houses, where you can live out the culture of your concentrated language as you improve your skills on a daily basis.
Modern Language Center
The Modern Language Center offers weekly conversation groups, engaging activities like game nights, free drop-in tutoring, and a fully mediated space for interactive class sessions. And free coffee and tea to boot!
