Semester Programs

A full semester abroad is included financially in your tuition at Furman, as part of The Furman Advantage. History faculty regularly lead programs to Brussels, Edinburgh, India, Latin America, and the British Isles. During these experiences, students may study at local universities, build on their learning through planned excursions, connect with local communities and cultures, and participate in internships.

May Experience

In the last three weeks of May, students can participate in the May Experience program, worth two credits. History faculty take students beyond the classroom to enhance their education and develop global perspectives. Students may visit important WWI sites along the Western European Front; learn about the history of medicine in the UK; reflect on the significance of war and memory in Bosnia/Croatia/Serbia or Vietnam; study complex politics in Cuba, or develop an appreciation for the role of food in Italian culture. New MayX programs are being developed every year, so the opportunities are limitless.
