Senior Awards

The History Department usually gives out four awards to graduating seniors. The Endel Award, named after an early benefactor of the department, goes to the student with the highest overall grade point average in the major. The Gilpatrick Award, named after Dr. Delbert Gilpatrick, who taught in the department from 1926 to 1960, is awarded to the graduating senior who has had the greatest impact on the department during their time at Furman. In concert with the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, we give out the Jefferson Cup to the outstanding graduating senior focusing on American history. We also give out the Alumni Award for the student(s) who have contributed to the department in some unique way, have the second highest grade point average in the major, or otherwise is deserving of a special honor.
