What Can I Do with a Degree in English?

English majors can go on to a variety of careers and fields with their highly marketable skillset. Critical thinking, communication, and an analytical eye are all abilities English majors bring to the table. The possibilities are broad and endless!

Graduates may become lawyers, journalists, doctors, teachers, librarians, chaplains, or professors. And some students take more distinct paths, as we have one graduate who is an editor of an online gaming magazine, and another directs a program in adventure literature at a university.

Our two tracks permit specificity in our major. In the writing track, students are able to build a revised writing portfolio for applications to graduate studies in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Within our literature track, studies delve into the heart of literary texts, while also accomplishing a research project that falls under the theme of their seminar course.

Your academic advisor will provide mentorship and direction during your studies at Furman, preparing you for your future profession and guiding you through your undergraduate experience.
