Summer Experiences in Communication Studies

More than 70% of Furman students obtain internships during their academic career with guidance from faculty, career services, alumni, and our Internship Office. Furman provides students with the opportunity to apply for Summer Fellowship Funding and housing, granting students the financial means to take part in unpaid internships that may help them discover their passions and future careers. Greenville remains an up-and-coming city for professionals, supplying a wealth of different experiences within nonprofits, government, corporations, and legal offices. 

This year, our department has over 40 interns in different locations across the United States in a variety of positions. Our students discover their career interests through internships in advertising, marketing, social media engagement, journalism, and media production, to name a few. 

Below are just a few of ongoing internships with our majors:

• Hallie Rae Jones ’22 is serving as the Media and Events intern for The Rutherford, a historic wedding and event venue in Greenville.
• Katiemarie Owen ’22 is interning as the Marketing and Social Media Intern at High Spirits Hospitality, a hospitality service brand in the heart of downtown.
• Madison Wyman ’23 is operating as the Communications and Media Coordinator for Eagle Mountain Winery, which is located in Travelers Rest and sports 40-mile views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Wyman boosts engagement with the public, informing and educating interested parties about the offerings of the winery. 
• Patrick Carolina ’22 partnered with Furman’s Admission Office as an Admissions intern, where he leads prospective students and their families on tours around campus.
• Lindsay Cottle ‘22 is working as the Highlight Videographer for Camp Cove, a Christian summer camp in Texas. At Camp Cove, Lindsay produces a ten-minute video of featured moments of the week.
