National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions. This award provides a tuition grant and stipend for three years of graduate studies. Students typically apply for this award while they are seniors at Furman and chemistry majors have been highly successful in obtaining this award.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is committed to providing a source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians, and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue research careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This award offers scholarship support during your undergraduate years, and students who have conducted research in the chemistry department have been very successful in obtaining this award.

Beckman Scholars

The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation annually selects about a dozen schools for this prestigious award that provides undergraduates and faculty unique opportunities for excellence through sustained, in-depth laboratory research experiences. The chemistry department at Furman has received continuous funding since the inception of the program. Each year, the chemistry department selects one or two student(s) to receive this award in support of the student/faculty research project.

Fulbright Fellows

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating college seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study, conduct research, and/or teach English abroad.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship

The NDSEG Fellowship is awarded to U.S. citizens and nationals pursuing a doctoral degree in science and engineering disciplines of military importance. It is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), Army Research Office (ARO), and Office of Naval Research (ONR) under the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (OSD) for Research and Engineering.

Truman Scholars

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation supports the graduate education and professional development of outstanding young people committed to public service leadership.

Homeland Security Scholarship

The Department of Homeland Security offers a variety of prestigious scholarships, fellowships, internships and training opportunities to expose talented students to the broad national security mission.
