Our Business Administration and Accounting programs are recognized as two of the most comprehensive among liberal arts colleges. You don’t just learn how a business functions, or crunch numbers, as a major in our department, you learn how to communicate, work in teams, make effective business decisions, and you learn how to lead.
Global Experience
Interested in doing business in London? Or maybe Dubai? Our study away and MayX programs will prepare you for the global marketplace. At Furman, our trips are about more than site seeing. Our study away and MayX programs offer a life-changing experience that will expose you to new ideas, cultures, and business opportunities.
Study Away
In our study away programs, our students have even interned with global organizations, such as the European Union and Scottish Parliament. But unlike programs at other universities, our study away trips provide an academic component. Our professors lead many of our programs, ensuring that you will receive a Furman quality education while traveling off-campus.

May Experience
May X is an optional three-week term in May that encourages innovative and intensive academic experiences. In recent years, the Business & Accounting department has sponsored three MayX opportunities in which our students have participated. They are: “New York, New York: Business at the Top of the World,” “Business Practices and Economies of South-East Asia,” and “From Germany to South Carolina: Examining Economic Globalization Through the Lens of the Global Automotive Industry.”

Research & Internship
We not only have connections in the local business community, but each year representatives from the nation's four largest accounting firms recruit our accounting students.
Mentoring & Advising
Our faculty can make sure you have taken the right path to your desired goal after Furman. With nearly a dozen faculty members, our talented department will help you analyze the business world from every angle. Our professors have expertise in accounting, finance, marketing, operations management, organization behavior, as well as other areas of study. Together, these educators will prepare you for your career.
Student Organizations
When you major in business or accounting, your educational experience is not limited to the classroom. You will meet talented and passionate students from across the globe who will expose you to new ideas, and challenge your way of thinking. If you want to expand that network, you’ll find plenty of opportunities in our student organizations.
Accounting Society
Furman’s Accounting Society is open to all students, regardless of major. But if you are planning to pursue a degree or career in accounting, you’re highly encouraged to become a member.
As a member of our Accounting Society, you will have an opportunity to learn more about the accounting profession. We meet several times throughout the year to hear guest speakers, meet with representatives from major accounting firms, and learn about graduate school. A $15 membership fee covers our events. Contact Sandy Roberson for details.

Investments Club
Seeking a career in investment management, private equity or banking? Get real-world experience in our Investments Club. For more than two decades, this organization has provided students with an opportunity to manage a portfolio and learn vital skills that can be utilized in the financial sector.
Here’s how it started: In 1988, Furman’s Board of Trustees transferred $100,000 to the club from the school’s endowment. Since then, the club’s members have used that balance to identify investment strategies, purchase stocks and gain experience in the world of finance. The group also hosts events with Greenville’s business leaders.
Our club currently meets twice a month to learn about investment topics and study our portfolio.
