Established in 1986 as a consortium of member school districts and Furman University, the Upstate Schools Consortium now represents large and small school districts, private schools, and colleges and universities in the geographic upstate. Furman University coordinates professional development seminars and provides the Consortium with meeting space, personnel, and resources.
The purposes of the Upstate Schools Consortium are to provide:
- professional development for teachers, teacher candidates, and administrators;
- a forum for education-related issues;
- an intersection of teacher preparation programs and public school personnel;
- and a network of support for professional development staff
The Upstate Schools Consortium was recently named a finalist for the 2022 Dick and Tunky Riley WhatWorksSC Award presented by Furman University’s Riley Institute in recognition of its impact on public education in South Carolina. A committee of corporate leaders and education experts selected the Consortium as a finalist from a large pool of entries based on effectiveness as evidenced by their research, resource allocation, and sustainability. SCETV provided the video (click on picture) about the Consortium’s professional development initiatives. Click the link below to register for our next PD event!
