Lauren Allen

Lauren is a health sciences and Spanish double-major. While at Furman, she has interned with several organizations, including the Graphic Cow Company, Sweet Tea Cancer Connections, and FIT Rx. She also studied Spanish during a study-away trip to Chile and Argentina. After graduation, Lauren plans to take a gap year before pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Michael Bowling

Michael is a mathematics and computer science double-major. While at Furman, he conducted mathematics research on directed graphs and lattice structures, as well as computer science research on developing a competitive agent for Magic: The Gathering. After graduation, Michael will begin working as a technical consultant for Capgemini in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lindsey Cottle

Duke

Lindsey is a communication studies and French major. She has conducted research with the Furman communication studies department, and she participated in an internship with Smoak Public Relations. During her time at Furman, Lindsey studied away in Versailles, France as part of a French language immersion program, and in San José, Costa Rica, where she studied sustainability and social justice. After graduation, Lindsey will participate in an international internship program in Morocco, South Korea, and the United States before starting graduate school to earn a Masters in International Education at the School for International Training.

Nick Curcio

Nick is a Spanish and communication studies major with a minor in Latin American and Latinx studies. He has participated in internships with the United States Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Law Offices of John M. Mussetto, as well as two marketing internships. Nick teamed up with two seniors to conduct research on Meme virality and the role of proxemics in political meme success on Twitter, for which they won second place. He has also researched and presented on Digital Storytelling as a pedagogical tool, and, Human rights violations coverage in the U.S. and Syria. Nick studied Spanish in Chile and Argentina, travel writing in Spain, and religious, national, and ethic identities in the Czech Republic. After graduation, he plans to attend the Vanderbilt University Law School.

Erica Daly

Erica is a politics and international affairs major. She has interned with Schmitt and Orlov Intellectual Property Law in Bangkok Thailand, the United States Senate in DC, Adair Ford Boroughs for Congress, and JC and Associates, where she worked on the Joe Cunningham for Governor and Lillian Brock Flemming campaigns. She also studied away in Washington DC, where she interned on Capitol Hill and studied Media and Politics. After graduation, Erica plans to work in victim services in Boston, Massachusetts for two years before attending law school to advocate for victims of sexual violence.

Madeleine Edenton

Madeleine is a physics and applied mathematics double-major with a minor in data analytics. While at Furman, she participated in several research projects, including research with the physics department on supernova remnant identification at radio frequencies, research with the math department on the topology of the universe, and computer science research on quantum computing and natural language processing. She also participated in the Educational Research in Radio Astronomy workshop at the Green Bank Observatory. In the fall, Madeleine will start as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Virginia, pursuing a doctorate in astronomy and astrophysics.

Ben is an economics major with a concentration in psychology from Easton, Connecticut. Ben in involved in Greek life and Interfraternity Council. He also enjoys those sweet potato tots from The Paddock.

Sam Gary

Sam is a psychology major. While at Furman, Sam participated in both psychology and biology research, and he worked as a FoodShare intern with Mill Village Farms. He plans to take some time to explore and engaged with different communities after graduation before applying to medical school.

Cami Gunn

Duke

Cami is a health sciences major with minors in poverty studies & medicine and health & culture. While at Furman, she participated in internships with FUEL the Community and United Ministries. Cami studied abroad in India, where she participated in a public health internship and studied global health inequalities, the effects of poverty on child development, and the globalization and power politics of India. After graduation, Cami plans to take a gap year to gain additional clinical experience while applying to medical school.

Amber Jacobsen

Amber is a public health major on the pre-medicine track. While at Furman, she has interned for several organizations, including Sustaining Way, South Carolina Health Professionals for Climate Action, and the National Patient Advocate Foundation. She also participated in a semester-long United Nations Millenium Fellowship, and she studied abroad and interned in India with the Deep Griha Society, an organization dedicated to the empowerment and care of marginalized groups in Pune. After graduation, Amber will attend the USC-Greenville Medical School where she hopes to specialize in a field with a public health component.

Connor Jenkins

Connor is a Spanish major who traveled to Madrid, Spain to study Spanish through Furman’s study away program. He also participated in the Furman Interfaith Scholar Program. After graduation, Connor plans to stay at Furman a bit longer to complete a Master of Science in Community Engaged Medicine.

Leanne Joyce

Leanne is a German studies major. She participated in an internship with the Duke Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and she worked as a peer coach with Duke’s interventional clinic trial titled Peer Coaching Adaptive Self-Management Interventions for Young Adults with Congenital Heart Disease. Leanne also spent a semester in Berlin, Germany, studying German at Freie Universität. After graduation, she will travel to North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Grant for one year, and she plans to apply to medical school the following year.

Rosie Kim

Duke

Rosie is an applied mathematics major with a minor in data analytics. She was a summer mathematics undergraduate research fellow at Furman, participating in an interdisciplinary research project with fellows and faculty mentors across the globe. She also worked as a supply chain analyst intern at Lenovo, an she participated in a ‘Math and the Mouse’ MayX program in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Rosie plans to pursue a PhD in industrial engineering at Georgia Tech after graduating from Furman. She hopes to work in the Supply Chain and Logistics fields.

Maddie Klumb

Maddie is a chemistry and physics double-major who has participated in ongoing research in the Wheeler lab in Furman’s chemistry department. She traveled to Spain during MayX to study travel writing with the communications department. After graduation, Maddie will attend the University of Colorado Boulder to earn a PhD in chemical physics.

Alston Lewis

Alston is a biochemistry and history double-major. He has conducted research with the Wheeler Analytical Chemistry lab at Furman and was a research intern with the Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. He also traveled to Europe for a MayX trip to study World War I. After graduation, Alston plans to attend medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Alana Miller

Alana is a health sciences and Spanish double-major with a minor in Latin American studies. While at Furman, Alana interned with Unity Health on Main, a clinic serving the medically underserved Hispanic population of Greenville. She spent a semester in Argentina and Chile studying Spanish, and she plans to study religion, art, and politics in Turkey for MayX after graduation. After returning from Turkey, Alana will pursue a Master of Science in Nursing degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Nicholas Robins

Nick is a computer science major. While at Furman, he participated in a summer research project on Furman Now!, a “central hub” mobile app that displays campus information such as events, food options, and shuttle locations. After graduation, Nicholas will begin working as a software developer at Epic Systems in Madison, Wisconsin.

Morgen Smith

Duke

Morgen is a politics and international affairs major with a minor in linguistics. She has interned with several organizations, including Friends Forever International in Durham, New Hampshire, United Ministries, LiveWell Greenville, and Westminster Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministry. She studied away in Vienna, Austria, where she taught English at a local elementary school and studied business, economics, international relations. Morgen also conducted research at Furman, comparing the context of learning in L2 phonetic acquisition, which culminated in an independent study focused on producing a paper for publication. After graduation, Morgen plans to pursue jobs in the non-profit or education sectors in Washington, DC.

Price St. Clair

Price is a politics and international affairs majors. While at Furman, he participated in an editorial internship with The Dispatch in Washington, DC. He also conducted research with the politics department, studying the religious affiliations, beliefs, and behaviors of members of the 112th Congress. He also served as a research assistant to Dr. Fleming on the paper “Undergraduate Research Posters: An Opportunity for Intergenerational Learning.” Price plans to travel to Israel for MayX after graduation. He will then begin working at The Dispatch in Washington, DC as a reporter specializing in explainers.

Maddie Tedrick

Maddie is a chemistry major who has conducted chemistry research at Furman and participated in the PRISMA Health ETC Ambassador Program and the Faith in the Vaccine Ambassador Program. During her time at Furman, Maddie studied away in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she took a variety of classes including human health and disease, European storytelling, and medical ethics. She also traveled to Poland and the west coast of Denmark, where she explored different healthcare systems in the area. She also participated in a MayX trip, during which she traveled to the Four Corners region of the southwestern U.S. to the Hopi and Navajo reservations to learn about the tribes’ histories, cultures, religions, and their day-to-day lives in the 21st century. After graduation, Maddie will attend medical school at the USC School of Medicine in Greenville.

Rorie Vander Ploeg

Rorie is a biology and Spanish double-major. While at Furman, she participated in immunology research with Dr. Rawlings, and she worked with Dr. Absher on summer neurology research. After graduation, Rorie plans to study for her MCAT exam and apply to medical school.

Caroline Vickery

Caroline is an earth and environmental sciences major. She was a Shi Institute Eco-Rep Student Fellow and a Summer Research Fellow, and she participated in the First Year China Experience, through which she traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, and Yunnan Province. After graduation, Caroline will work with Superior National Forest in Minnesota to study the effects of timber management on soil over the summer. In the fall, she plans to move to Colorado Springs to participate in the First Presbyterian Fellows Program, where she will take seminary classes and continue to refine her vocational pathway through internship experiences.

Maggie Welsh

Maggie is an accounting major who has participated in internships with numerous organizations during her time at Furman, including Elliott Davis; Teall Acquisitions; Ramage Lewis, CPA; United Way; Legna Software; Oliver Hooper Events and Paper; and the Poe Mill Achievement Center. After graduation, Maggie plans to work as an Audit Associate at Elliott Davis in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Holly, a public health and Spanish double major, is from Birmingham, Alabama. On campus, she is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership Team, Shucker Leadership Institute, Paladin Admissions Liaison Program, and Kappa Delta Sorority. In her spare time, you can find her on the Swamp Rabbit Trail running or playing soccer with friends on the North Village fields.

Ali Collins

Ali is double majoring in educational studies and Spanish and is from San Diego, California. Ali is involved in Heller Service Corps as director of agency relations, is director of philanthropy for her sorority, and is an admissions ambassador. Her favorite spot on campus is the Library Cafe and library patio where she likes to make a pitstop and meet up with friends between classes. In her free time, Ali loves to be outdoors and go hiking or simply take a lake walk.

Brooke Diederich

Brooke is a chemistry major and poverty studies minor from Purcellville, Virginia. Brooke is the scholars intern for the Riley Institute. She is also involved in Greek life, chemistry research, club soccer, and volunteers in Greenville. While she is not participating in those activities, Brooke enjoys hanging out with her cat and hiking.

She is the director of lifetime membership for Delta Delta Delta, a Pathways peer mentor, a member of the Furman Conservative Society, a member of the club swimming and club running teams, and a Paladin Admissions liaison in the spring. Shane likes to spend her free time working out, writing raps, playing board games, and excessively quoting movies.

In her free time, Lauren enjoys going for lake walks and having movie nights with her friends.

Hanna is involved in the Taste Lab, the Psychology Student Advisory Board, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and she serves as the VP of marketing for Alpha Delta Pi. Thomas is an active member of the Furman music department, including participation in the Furman Symphonic Winds, Furman Clarinet Studio, and the Paladin Regiment marching band. Thomas is also a consultant for the Furman Writing and Media Lab, the secretary-treasurer for the Furman Clarinet Society, and treasurer for Furman Pride Alliance. When not involved with class, music, or organizations, Thomas enjoys spending time with friends, hiking, and exploring the Upstate.

CJ is a trumpet performance major from Greer, South Carolina. CJ is the music director of Furman’s chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and the president of The Bell Tower Boys. He also participates in Furman Bands, Furman Singers, and Furman Symphony Orchestra. CJ enjoys biking and running around the lake when he’s not working on music.

Julian is a dual-degree applied physics major from Lilburn, Georgia. Julian is the long snapper for the Furman football team while also serving on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Off the field, he helps lead Furman’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he participates in the Increasing Retention and Inclusivity in STEM (IRIS) program. In his spare time, Julian is a freelance graphic designer.

He is the Opinions editor of The Paladin, a graphic designer and member of the Furman University Student Activities Board, a CliftonStrengths ambassador, and the sponsorship chair of Pi Kappa Phi. Biruja is a neuroscience and philosophy double major from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Biruja is involved in Badminton Club, the Furman University International Student Association, and Mosaic, and she is the president of Esports Club. Apart from these activities, you can find her at the amphitheater, which is her favorite spot on campus, the PAC, or with her friends.

Sam Dayton

Sam is from Dallas, Texas, and is triple majoring in math, information technology, and philosophy. He is involved with the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and the Furman University Student Activities Board. Sam is very passionate about sustainable living, and he currently lives in the eco-cabins on the lake next to the bell tower. He loves hanging out at the outdoor classroom tucked behind the cabins. In his free time, Sam likes to sit around with his friends until one of them proposes a random activity, and he has recently been getting more into skateboarding.

William is involved in Men of Distinction, Phi Eta Sigma, the Native American and Indigenous People Association, and the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Abby is involved in the Shucker Leadership Institute, Alpha Epsilon Delta (the pre-med honor society), the American Chemical Society, TriBeta (the biology honor society), and is a member of the Greenbelt Sustainable Living Community. In her free time, Abby enjoys spending time outdoors going for lake walks/runs, working out in the PAC, or reading in her room. During the week, you can usually find her hard at work in the science library.

Jayden Williams

Jayden plans to double major in psychology and Spanish. Jayden is from Easley, South Carolina, and he enjoys recreational reading, spending time with family, and writing music. On-campus, he is part of the Furman University Gospel Ensemble (FUGE) and Hispanic Outreach and Latinx Awareness (HOLA). His favorite spot on campus is the Furman Lake, which he enjoys viewing while sitting on a bench under the Bell Tower.

While he is not participating in those activities, Deniz works on his book, Sports Marketing & Consumer Behavior in the Sports Industry. He is also passionate about electronic music production.
