South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control Director Catherine Heigel gave the keynote address to a crowd of several hundred attorneys, interested citizens, and law students at the Charleston Music Hall on February 5. Director Heigel focused on the environmental control side of her department, speaking of how her staff at DHEC are coming together passionately to identify and address places needing improvement in clean water and clean air in South Carolina. Part 3 – Afternoon Session

Offshore drilling, nuclear energy, and solar energy were the topics discussed during the panels surrounding her talk.  Among the panelists were private practice attorneys Jack Smith, Norman Anseman, III, and Ashley Cooper and  environmental law attorneys Chris DeSchere, Hamilton Davis, Blan Holman, and Wyatt Sassman. Representatives Stephen Goldfinch and Harold Mitchell also participated in panel discussions as did supporters of nuclear energy, Dan Gatlin (SCANA) and Vice Admiral Charles Munns.
