The Dream Casters team developed an awareness campaign strategy to support the work of The SC Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP). MLP is a partnership between three agencies: Prisma Health, Furman University, and South Carolina Legal Services (SCLS). Through this partnership, a health care provider identifies a potential health harming legal need, and directly refers the patient to a lawyer located at the Center for Developmental Services. MLP currently provides legal services for pediatric patients (0-21 years) with developmental disabilities and special needs, and geriatric patients (50+ years) in low‐income families who are patients of Prisma Health Upstate healthcare providers.

The MLP offers a wide range of civil legal services through South Carolina Legal Services for eligible families and examples include: Guardianship/ Conservatorship, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Housing (conditions, landlord disputes, eviction), Academic support/IEP representation, and other civil areas of law.

The Dream Casters team interviewed a member of each agency and created a promotional video to accomplish the following objectives:

  • Explain and heighten the awareness of MLP in South Carolina
  • Increase partnership with legal and medical providers
  • Attract increased funding and donor support
