The Second Chancers project is working with a local task force to improve opportunities and recidivism rates for reentering citizens (the ex-offender population). High recidivism rates is a national problem that impacts all areas of our society, from local families to our national economy.  Here in South Carolina there are approximately 1.1 million adults (about 1 in 3) with a criminal record. The Second Chancers are assisting the Greenville Reentry Task Force to develop a coalition identity, brand, and clear communication message in order to build targeted awareness about the issue. Through the professional redesign of two guides (one for former inmates seeking resources and one for potential employers of people with criminal backgrounds), the task force will have a tangible product to use when advocating on behalf of reentering citizens with legislators, the business community, and other stakeholders. The overall goal of the project is to create a compelling and credible communication message through the tools of the two guides and a Powerpoint presentation. These tools will allow the task force to build opportunities for reentering citizens not only for employment, but housing and a range of other critical needs.
