Current high school and college students fall into Generation Z (those born between 1997 and 2012).  An article from Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning explains that older Gen Zs entered the workforce during the pandemic or since and therefore have not had as many in-person interactions in a professional setting.  Gen Z also has been described as maturing slowly, taking more time to gain the necessary life skills and experiences to transition into adulthood.  This combination is a potential setback for Generation Z as they attempt to join the workforce and excel in their chosen profession.  There is no consistency amongst schools and universities regarding job-preparation programs, leaving much of Gen Z’s job pursuits left to chance.

Practice Makes Professional bridges the gap between academics and career success by offering job-ready Gen Z students practical, real-world interviewing, mentorship, and networking experiences. In partnership with local businesses, students participate in mock interviews led by experienced business leaders who provide immediate, constructive feedback and guidance. The initiative concludes with a networking event designed to strengthen students’ professional skills, boost their confidence, and foster meaningful professional connections.
