The Phillis Wheatley Community Center (PWCC) has been serving the Greenville community for over 100 years. After a period of downturn, the center has been revitalized and is actively serving seniors and children. An important opportunity for PWCC’s development is to bring a kitchen facility into production, enabling the organization to take on the missions of providing a reliable source of healthy nutrition for the community, as well as education to support a healthy lifestyle.

To support this mission, the launch of the Healthy Kitchen Initiative will provide people in need of nutritional assistance with a reliable source of healthy food and nutrition education. The project will start by providing those in the senior health and wellness program with one meal per week. The goal is to expand that availability as the program grows. Alongside the close partnership with PWCC Director Randy Jackson (member of our DLI cohort and project team) and the PWCC Operations Manager Kristi Inglis, a vision, mission, and operational readiness for the Healthy Kitchen will come to life.
