Background/Situation Analysis

On the Road Again is a project of the South Carolina Foster Parent Association which provides donated cars to foster care youth who are at least 18 and not yet 21 years old, actively employed, pursuing a GED or engaged in a post-high school educational program. With adequate transportation, these young people are able pursue their goals of continuing education and employment, allowing for a more successful transition into adulthood.

The program addresses current needs of young people transitioning from Foster Care to independence.   A focus of the program is to help these young people achieve “normal”, helping level the playing field in what has likely been an economically and personally challenging upbringing.

The gift of a car is for them, quite literally, a lifeline to adulthood and responsibility.

Goal(s):

The overall goal of DLI Team V is to support this meaningful program by increasing annual vehicle contributions by 20%, and helping more of these young people achieve their dreams of success and personal sustainability.

Provide the SCFPA with a “Key Konnections” database of business and personal contacts, as well as support relationship development that will yield vehicle donations for years to come.

Measurement:

The On the Road Again Program averages 25 vehicle donations a year. An additional 20% would result in 5 more donations annually.  As of 6/26/14, solicitations have resulted in 4 vehicle donations. With upcoming publicity in business related publications, we hope to advance the cause of the program and bring about many more donations by year end.
