Project Mission:

To support Greenville Homeless Alliance in increasing awareness of homelessness in the Upstate, debunking myths about homelessness, and encouraging action to support efforts to decrease homelessness in the Upstate.

Project Objectives:

  • Utilize social media to encourage attendance (in person or virtually) at GHA’s Facing Homelessness/Sharing Hope Luncheon during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week.
  • Produce and submit to media contacts during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week a PSA to increase homelessness awareness in the Upstate and to encourage people to learn more through GHA.
  • Develop a short “teaser” presentation to encourage community groups, businesses, education entities, faith-based groups, etc. to partner with GHA to host educational sessions that will build awareness and encourage action.
  • Encourage the community to visit the Greenville Homeless Alliance YouTube channel to see MythBuster videos and more.
  • Commit to linking community groups to GHA to present its Advocacy 101 or other educational sessions.
  • Support GHA through group attendance at the GHA Facing Homelessness/ Sharing Hope Luncheon.

Additional Benefits:

  • Educates the community around the local issue of homelessness and debunks myths about people who are homeless.
  • Raises the issue and encourages others to share information.
  • Encourages action – “What You Can Do”:
  • Volunteer – Share your time, get to know a person or family who is residing at an emergency shelter.
  • Donate food, clothing, and other items.

  • Advocate – We must also advocate for policies that will address the root causes of hunger and homelessness to ensure durable change our community.

The reality is that hunger and homelessness are widespread problems that affect far too many people.  Take action today!
