More than 12,000 children in South Carolina are considered homeless. Seventy-eight percent are “doubled up” (living with another family) or unsheltered, with families sleeping in parks, cars, or other temporary shelter.
Jasper County—the fastest-growing county in the state—faces similar challenges:
• 20% of households live below the poverty line.
• 26% fall below the self-sufficiency threshold, requiring monthly assistance.
In total, 46% of Jasper County households are only one unexpected crisis away from losing housing stability. This project aims to provide immediate support while helping build long-term capacity for a trusted community partner.
The purpose of this project is to partner with Agape Family Life Center to provide FIT Packs (Families in Transition Packs) for families experiencing homelessness or housing instability in Jasper County, SC.
Agape will serve as the distribution hub based on its established work with unhoused families. The project goals are to:
• Assemble and supply the first 50 complete FIT Packs.
• Create Agape’s Amazon Wish List for future donations.
• Build a fundraising platform and develop social media templates.
• Train Agape’s designated volunteer for program continuity.
The 50 complete FIT Packs will contain:
- Gift cards for groceries, gas, food, and essentials
- Fleece blankets
- Hygiene wipes
- Laundry detergent
- Printed list of family support resources
While FIT Packs offer immediate comfort and practical support, the broader outcome is increased long-term capacity for Agape Family Life Center to continue serving families in transition. This team will also train an Agape-designated volunteer with the intention to create a long-term sustainability plan beyond the initial setup, continue ongoing fundraising management, and oversee distribution beyond January 2026.
