Dr. Alex Akulli joined Furman University in summer of 2022, serving as the Associate Director of International Student Engagement and Principal Designated School Official. He brings two decades of professional experience in international higher education administration, visa compliance, and global engagement. His research and lived experiences as an international student and foreign-born academic inform his work with international students, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Akulli is an engaged “glocal” practitioner, academic, and thought leader. In addition to administrative and teaching roles in higher education, he has served in consulting, leadership, and board member roles for several local and international organizations in the United States and abroad. As an active member of several national and international associations, he has numerous conference presentations in the areas of international education, learning and instruction, and faculty professional development.

Dr. Akulli has served as a subject matter expert and external reviewer for nationally and internationally recognized peer reviewed academic journals, academic and professional development conferences, and prestigious scholarships and fellowships. He has traveled and served in countries across Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe.
