Workplace Safety

Risk Management provides general safety services to the University to include hazard identification and analysis, accident investigations, ergonomic assessments, indoor air quality investigations, OSHA compliance and safety training. Specific written programs are available for the following:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Confined Space
  • Fall Protection
  • Hazard Communication (Safety Data Sheets)
  • Lockout/Tagout
  • Respiratory Protection

Laboratory Safety

Faculty, staff, and students who work in science laboratories are exposed to many types of hazards that involve a greater variety of possible hazards than do most workplaces. The Risk Management Office is responsible for overseeing the Lab Safety programs and conducting periodic audits to ensure compliance with the requirements outlined in the University Chemical Hygiene Plan. Specific written programs are available for the following areas:

  • Hazardous Waste
  • Laser Safety
  • Radiation Safety
  • X-Ray Safety
