Tom Evelyn, VP of Communications, takes Trinity post
Tom Evelyn, vice president for University Communications at Furman University, has accepted a new role as vice president for Strategic Communications and Marketing at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. His last day at Furman will be February 28.
Evelyn came to Furman in August of 2016 from the University of Florida, his alma mater. “During his tenure at Furman, Tom has been instrumental in elevating our brand and professionalizing our marketing and communications,” said Furman University President Elizabeth Davis. “His leadership and thoughtful strategies contributed to Furman’s moving up eight spots in the U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Colleges’ rankings as well as a three-point improvement in our peer assessment score and recognition multiple times as a ‘Most Innovative’ university.”
Evelyn was also integral in shaping key initiatives that have defined Furman, Davis said. He created the brand and messaging platforms for both The Furman Advantage and Clearly Furman, the Campaign for Our Third Century, creating narratives that have helped Furman double applications and fundraising while growing its national reputation.
Emily Schuck, vice president for Enrollment Management, will serve as interim vice president for University Communications until a replacement is found. Assistant Vice President for University Communications Christine Velasquez will manage day-to-day operations for the department.
