Furman University’s Megan Richmond appeared in a WSPA 7 News (CBS) consumer exclusive about medical billing. Richmond, a member of Furman’s Institute for the Advancement of Community Health (IACH), said medical billing errors cost patients billions of dollars each year. She said up to 80% of health care consumers nationwide have reported errors. “That error can be duplications, it can be maybe a procedure that they did not actually receive or even just costs that are just not consistent with what the hospital has published,” she said.
Richmond is the postdoctoral training coordinator at Furman’s IACH. She holds a doctorate in health care administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.
