Discover Furman Engaged: Recommended Sessions and Events
Furman Engaged is back on April 17 to celebrate student accomplishments across campus and throughout disciplines. Each year, students dive into internships, Study Away programs, research projects and hands-on classroom experiences that push them to explore new ideas and perspectives. Attending these presentations is a great way to see that work come to life. You get a real sense of the effort students put in and the pride they take in sharing it. With sessions spanning every facet of Furman University, there’s truly something for everyone.

Earth, Environmental, and Sustainability Sciences Capstone Projects (Sessions 1–4)
Time: 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Location: Hartness Pavilion
These sessions showcase the incredible work students have done on their capstone projects. Sustainability and environmental science are constantly evolving fields, and these presentations highlight the real impact humans have on the planet. Students tackle pressing issues and bring forward research that shows where the next generation of scientists is focusing its attention and why these conversations matter more than ever.
“I Did It! You Can Do It Too”: High Impact Learning Experiences in the French Program
Time: 9-10:15 a.m.
Location: Furman Hall 230
Hear from French majors as they share their engaged learning experiences, including studying away in Rennes, France. Their stories highlight how stepping outside your comfort zone can teach you a lot about yourself and the world. It’s also a great reminder of how valuable language skills can be in a global setting.
Museums, Movies, and Monuments – Off Campus Research
Time: 10:30-11:45 a.m.
Location: Furman Hall 204
This session highlights student work in public history around the Greenville area. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at projects like museum exhibits and educational websites. It’s a great way to see how much thought and effort goes into work that might seem simple at first glance.
The Echo 2026
Time: 10:30-11:45 a.m.
Location: Furman Hall 214 (McEachern Lecture Hall)
Come to the reveal of “The Echo,” Furman’s longest-running literary journal. Students will read and discuss their work, offering insight into the ideas and themes that matter most to them. The journal brings together poetry, photography, studio art and prose in one creative space.
Internships in Managing Complex Organizations
Time: 12:30-1:45 p.m.
Location: Johns Hall 107
Listen to students share their internship experiences in politics and international affairs. These presentations give you an inside look at how large organizations operate and how students are navigating real-world challenges on national and global stages.

Francis Kim teaches a MayX course called “Stock Option Trading and Risk Management” in the Finance and Business Analytics Lab (Hipp 102) on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. In the class, students paper trade stocks and options after engaging in rigorous analysis of their chosen companies.
MayX: Stock Option Trading Challenge
Time: 12:30-1:45 p.m.
Location: Hipp Hall 102
Students discuss their experience in the MayX program and what they learned from participating in a stock trading challenge. You’ll hear about investment strategies, market trends and how the ever-changing economy shapes decision-making.
Psychology Research Session
Time: 2-3:15 p.m.
Location: Johns Hall 101
Explore new discoveries in psychology as students present their research. From advancing current studies to introducing new ideas, this session highlights just how dynamic and fascinating the study of the human mind can be.
Furman Theatre Capstone Projects
Time: 2-3:15 p.m.
Location: Studio Theatre, The Playhouse
Support the theatre community and see the capstone projects students have been working on all year. These performances and presentations show how theatre can entertain, challenge perspectives and tell meaningful stories.
Know Thyself: A May Experience in Greece
Time: 2-3:15 p.m.
Location: Johns Hall 208
Students share their experiences from studying in Greece, reflecting on history, culture and personal growth. It’s a thoughtful session about learning not just from a place, but about yourself.

Location: Timmons Arena
Walk through displays of student internship work from across campus and the Greenville community. It’s a great way to see the variety of opportunities available and maybe get ideas for your own path.
Research Poster Session (Sessions 1 and 2)
Time: 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Location: Timmons Arena
Students present research conducted alongside faculty. These sessions offer a snapshot of the wide range of academic work happening at Furman and can even inspire future research ideas.
Senior Studio Art Exhibition Reception
Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Location: Thompson Art Gallery, Roe Art Building
Celebrate the work of senior studio art majors. This exhibition is a chance to experience creative expression firsthand and see how artists invite viewers to interpret their work in their own way.
Other Events Happening During Furman Engaged

Foods from Peru, India, Kazakhstan and other countries make up the international food festival, hosted by Furman University International Students Association.
FUISA International Food Festival

Furman Jazz Ensemble Concert

Sit back and enjoy a lively jazz performance. Jazz has a way of bringing people together, and this concert is no exception.
“HumanKind: be both” – Dance Performance

This dance performance explores what it means to be both human and kind. Through movement and storytelling, it offers a powerful and thought-provoking experience.
