Furman University’s Brent Nelsen talks about the uncertainties surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the U.S.-Israel war with Iran during an interview on FOX Carolina News last week.

Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs and regular guest on the station, says it remains to be seen what impact the U.S.-imposed naval blockade will have on restarting negotiations with Iran. Ships bearing fertilizer, jet fuel and other gases are being turned back to their ports in the Persian Gulf to put pressure on Iran to come to the negotiating table. Nelsen says if the war continues and talks between the U.S. and Iran continue to stall, and ship traffic in the mine-studded Strait of Hormuz is all but halted, the global economy will start to feel the pinch in earnest.
